This incredible young man was found "hobbling" around behind the Kingston Flea Market around the middle of April. After asking around we were told no one owned him. He was a very big cat, and very friendly. The next day we went back and got him and put him in a cat carrier and off we went to Dr. Rice's office in Annapolis Royal. When we got there we went to take Harley in his carrier out and the carrier came apart, the door of the carrier flew open, and out Harley flew! We were horrified. He ran like lightning (broken paw and all). He went behind the clinic and off into the horizon. We stood there with our jaws open. We tried everything to find him, but to no avail. We set a couple of traps and left. Three weeks went by ... nothing. Then one day our phone rang, it was Lynn from Dr. Rice's office. She caught Harley!!!! At the same time Lynn was catching Harley, Janice (of H.A.R.T.) was arriving with another cat to be vaccinated. (Janice was supposed to originally foster Harley). Janice brought Harley home with her. He was HALF the size as he was when we lost him, the poor guy. Tears of joy were shed by all. Janice gave Harley his own bedroom with all the comforts in the world. Because of the condition he was in he was not vaccinated right away, but was tested for feline leukemia and feline AIDS (negative). After he got to Janice's he was treated for his parasites. Within no time Janice found a home for this most exquisite man! He is with his new Mom (Sheila) right now awaiting his neuter and most likely amputation of his arm. (He will be operated on May 22nd) We wanted to share this story with you. Harley is an incredibly loving, tough boy. We love him so much and are so happy for him. We know that his amputation won't change anything about him. Stay tuned for more pictures of Harley as he continues on his journey with his new life and new Mom! We love you Harley!!
UPDATE!!
Harley is doing very well. He recently got neutered and while being neutered Dr. Rice removed part of a digit from Harley's paw that had what appeared to be a "mass" on it. He was sent home bandaged up. After getting home Harley was out of sorts with his two surgeries and hid for the better part of the weekend. Last night he came out of hiding. Today (May 26, 2008) Harley returned to see Dr. Rice to have his bandages removed. Things looked pretty good so Harley was sent home to see how he makes out with what has been done to date. He did not go into hiding this time! YAY! Now we shall wait and see how he makes out and hope that he does not have to have an amputation after all! Stay tuned for new pictures!!
