FOSTERING

We are in desperate need of good foster homes.  If you are interested in being a foster parent, please consider the following things first:

Fostering is a very serious committment, and is not for everyone.  First consider how much time you have on your hands.  Do you have the room for fosters?  If you have pets of your own, will they accept fosters in the house?  Sometimes it is best if you have an extra bedroom you can use, IF you are interested in fostering kittens.  It is not fair to an adult cat to have it locked up in a bedroom, especially if it is small room.  Some cats require more socialization than others.  One of the first things that has to be done to a new foster is treating it immediately for parasites.  We will supply you with Revolution for this and it is very easy to use.  All cats and kittens are different, just like people, and some are more work than others.  If you have a multi-cat household you might want to have foster kittens separated from them, sometimes kittens have Upper Respiratory Infections that are cantagious.  Of course we will pay for the treatment of any URI's.  As soon as a foster is taken in, a vet appointment is immediately made for feline leukemia testing and the first vaccination.  If the feline leukemia test is negative, they are immediately vaccinated and a spay or neuter appointment is made right away.  It would be most helpful to us if you would be able to drive the fosters to their vet appointments, if this is absolutely not possible for you, then consideration can be given for one of us to arrange transportation.  If you cannot afford food and litter, it will be supplied as well.  A home visit will be done by one of us to ensure fostering is right for you.  If you currently have cats they must be up to date on their vaccinations before fostering can be considered (whether they go out or not) and we also don't put our kittens and cats into foster homes where there is second hand smoke, etc.

A fostering application can be sent to you, either by mail, or email, whichever you like.  Once you have completed the application it can be returned to us by mail, email or in person to:  1147 New Road, Aylesford, Nova Scotia.

We thank everyone for their interest in fostering.  Only those applications that comply to our standards will be considered.
